With stillness, one can draw the senses inward.

The tendency of the mind is to follow stimulation from the senses or from thoughts. By learning to consciously internalize the signals coming from the senses, external stimulus quiets and fades. The annoying sounds of traffic no longer get a reaction. The itch on the bottom of your foot merely exists without disrupting concentration.

Most people practice some form of pratyahara without realizing it! The construction worker ignores the sounds of heavy machinery to focus on the task at hand. The musician closes their eyes to scrutinize the notes as they are played. The waste collector has trained their sense of smell to bypass the rot.

Imagine if you trained and learned how to corral your senses at will! What then? With the chaos of the world no longer clawing, you can begin to find Dharana.
